HOME-HOME ON THE RANGE
How time flies! I remember these cowboys and cowgirls like it was yesterday, yet here I am in my 70's and like I wrote above how time flies! So along with the cowboys and cowgirls I wrote about in my first post of western hero's here are dozens more.'
Bob Steele was a famous western star in the late 40's and 50'd then he became a charter actor as his star tarnished, while Dale Robertson rode in many westerns he became famous in the television series "Wells Fargo", then he faded into eternity.
Chuck Connors was the infamous rifleman, Michael Landon was little Joe on Bonanza, Clint Walker was "Cheyenne Body" a western series in the 50's. Then there was Gene Barry who played the part of Bat Masterson, while Dennis Miller played Chester on Gun Smoke.
You may recall James Garner, he played what I think was his best part as "Maverick", while George Montgomery played a dozen different western characters, Wild Bill Elliot who played "Red Rider".
See if any of these names ring a bell, if you were not around in those days they will mean nothing to you so here goes:
William Hart the most famous silent screen cowboy! Whip Wilson, Wayne Morris, Tom Tyler, Roy Crash Corrigan, Randolf Scott, Peter Breck, Pete Morrison, Neel O'Day, Monte Hall the singing cowboy, Lou Carrillo, Lane Chandler, Tom Keene, Joel McCrea, Jim Newall, Jim Dennis, Jim Bowman, Tim Holt, Tim McCoy, Slim Pickens, Smiley Burnette, Jack Mahoney, George Houston.
OK some more here, Johnny Mack Brown, Johnny carpenter, Reno Blair a gorgeous redhead, Ray Whittles, Ray Burnett, Ken Maynard, Ken Curtiss, George O'Brian, Jack Randall, Big Boy Williams, Jack Parrin, Jack Holt, Glen Ford, Harry Carey, Harry Carey Jr.
More? OK try these names on for size, Bill Cody, Bob Tumbleweed Baker, Bob Allen, Chill Wills, Allen Rocky Lane, Andy Devine, Amanda Blake, Dan Blocker, Dick Toran, Don Red Barry, Gabby Hayes, Fuzzy Knight, Bronco Bill Anderson, Buddy Roosevelt, Buzzy Barton, Eddie Dean.
The list goes on from there as there were more westerns made in the 40's and 50's than any other type of film, so its no wonder there were more cowboy stars than other stars but the times they are a changing!
